Knowing when and where to respond to emails, schedule client meetings, get in touch with construction foremen and take care of all these various minutiae throughout the day allows project managers to stay focused on the task at hand and do a good job of whatever it is they’re focused on at the moment. Splitting your attention can actually reduce the quality of your work significantly, so getting the job right means project managers can’t neglect the management of their own time.

Play an Active Role

Getting updates from managers and foremen on the jobsite can be useful when a PM absolutely cannot make it out to that particular site on that particular day, but this shouldn’t be the norm. Construction project managers need to be hands on, visiting the site on a regular basis and actively checking to make sure plans are being carried out to the letter. Being on the site can also help ensure safety protocol is being followed to ensure safe, efficient jobsite operation.
